17, and I just started playing bass?

I just got an electric bass guitar the other day. This is my third day of playing and I'm wondering if teaching myself would be a completely lost cause. I already knew the common beginning chords of smoke on water. On my second day I taught myself" 7 nation army", and I'm trying to learn Smells like teen spirit now. It's pretty difficult to do learn all of this by just using youtube videos and tab websites as guides. I'd like to get good at this, but I'm not sure that it's possible. But I thinks girls who can play bass are really cool! Any tips?
