Fender or Dean acoustic guitar?

I am getting a guitar for christmas and I need to pick out which one i want fairly soon
I found a Dean performer E acoustic electric for 270 and i really like it
one of my friends has told me that dean guitars arent very good though..he suggested i get a fender DG-8S starter pack for 200
I am a beginner and dont mind whether the guitar is acoustic-electic ..
