What Are The Different types Of Guitars?

Are you ready to start the next big rock band? Or maybe you just want to blow your friends and family away at the next local open mic night? Either way, learning to play the acoustic guitar is one of the most rewarding things you can do and it's not as hard as you may think.

Acoustic Guitar vs Electric Guitar-- Vibration between the strings, soundboard, and body are going to create the sound you hear from an acoustic guitar. The electric guitar is more just stings and electronic amplification to produce your sound.

Archtop Guitar -- A cool design by Gibson, which is particularly popular with Blues and Jazz players alike.

Acoustic bass guitar -- These bass guitars have a hollow wooden body and four strings. They are tuned to E,A,D, and G which is an octave below the lower four strings of a regular 6-string guitar.

Banjo -- It's kind of a novelty guitar with the round body attached to the standard neck. They can have 2, 3, or 4 strings, maybe even 6 sometimes. Made famous by the back wood folks.

This is obviously just a sample of the 1000's of guitars out there. So after you learn a few things with any kind of simple acoustic guitar lessons, you should be able to pick any of these up and strum a few tunes. The history of this great instrument is long and varied. The more people that learn to play, the better.

It's quite interesting to notice how guitar students have often the same questions when starting to play the instrument. In almost two decades I had hundreds, if not thousands, of people asking me the same questions over and over again. By far the most common question is whether to start with electric or acoustic guitar lessons and my answer to that is always the same: Acoustic guitar! these are my reasons why:

Acoustic guitars are loud enough and you don't need any amps or pedals you would normally need if you play electric. That will save you quite a bit of money you could spend in online guitar tutorials or even a better guitar.

When you play acoustic you focus on basic guitar techniques like chord changes, strumming and fingerpicking and you don't need to think about any advanced electric guitar stuff. That will help you lay down a good foundation.

Playing open chords sounds more authentic on acoustic guitar and it will definitely inspire you to play even more just because it sounds so good.

You can take your acoustic guitar wherever you like without having to worry about amplification. That is quite useful if you want to play at a camp or friends house and don't want to worry about carrying around extra stuff.

Acoustic guitar is a bit more demanding to play versus to electric guitar and that will make your hands stronger and help lay down a solid foundation.

Once established we should leave the electric guitar for a later stage, the next question is whether to buy a nylon or a steel string guitar. That is completely a personal choice as the two instruments have different tone and are used in different genres of music. If you want to play classical, flamenco, bossa nova or latino a nylon string is what you need while the steel string is used in more contemporary styles like pop, country and rock.

After you have been playing for a while and are comfortable playing song you can start considering getting yourself an electric guitar.

There are many competing websites, books and DVDs available when it comes to the subject of guitar lessons for beginners. For novices it can be very difficult to know which method of guitar instruction is best especially if you have no experience whatsoever.

The classic way to learn guitar is by going to a local tutor for private lessons. This time honoured practice is still probably the best assuming you can actually find a good local tutor, there may not be one present. My first word of advice is this - just because someone is advertising a guitar lesson does not automatically mean they are a good tutor.

Being able to successfully teach beginners how to play guitar is a talent the same as any other, not everyone has that ability. Some of the best players I know are also the worst guitar teachers!
