I would like songs that are not for beginners, more like amateurs, with powerchords and popular preferably, ROCK SONGS only, please do not answer any of these songs:
Smells Like Teen Spirit, Smoke In The Water,Holiday, Iron Man, Slash, Wipeout, Back in Black, Walk this Way, Crawling, Hand of Blood, Hey Joe, Enter Sandman, Fear of the Dar, Baby, I Gotta Feeling, 7 Nation Army, No More Sorrow, Rock you Like a Hurricane, Hit Me With Your Best Shot.

Also, any tips/advice to get my fingers longer, stronger, or more accostumed to playing guitar. Books are also good.

P.S: My favorite genre is Metal, but I also enjoy a lot Hard Rock and Punk Rock.

P.S.S: I play for over 6 months.

Sonic Youth - Kool Thing
311 - Love Song
Metallica - Master of Puppets
Tenacious D - The Metal (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED)

Good luck

Guitar help?

I really want to learn to play the guitar, but I know nothing about where to start or what kind to buy! I like the sound of electrics better, so I'm thinking of learning to play that one rather than acoustic. Where can I buy a good, inexpensive electric guitar for a beginner? And would I need an amplifier to go with it? Please tell me all you can, I really appreciate it! (:

I don't know where you can buy a cheap electric from. But I just thought I would mention for me it was alot easier to learn to play guitar from the acoustic instead of electric. Acoustic is just a better learning guitar than electric. (Or for me it was anyways.)

Not really. plus you should really buy your first guitar from a shop, and definitely not amazon, The reason being is if you have any trouble amazon cant help you, best they can do is ship you a new one after you've shipped the defective one back, which takes about 2 weeks and there's no guarantee the new one will be any better, as in they don't even open the box it arrived from China in. a shop will usually make sure it's checked out and in good playing condition before they sell it.

How do I start playing/learning Electric Guitar?

Hey,

I've owned an Electric Guitar for just over a year now and I've been very lazy and only know the very basics. This is because I only occassionaly pick up the Guitar and play with it for a little while, seeing as I have no formal training/lessons. I was wondering if there were any specific websites/online resources/books/sources I could use to improve my guitar skills as a beginner.

Thanks!

I was almost exactly like you. I had my guitar sitting in my room gathering dust for about 2 years before I actually started playing it. I have not taken any formal lessons. If your like me, you'll only need a little tutoring when you first get started, then you should be able to teach yourself pretty well. I used www.justinguitar.com. Its a great site run by a great guitar instructor and best of all its completely free. He'll teach you the basics, and if you want, the more advanced. Personally, I like to teach myself, but usually you just need some help getting started

(EDIT: like the guy above me said, check out ultimate-guitar.com for tabs once you learn how to play.)

Tips for a beginner electric guitar player?

I got an Academy electric guitar a couple of days ago with an amp that came with the guitar. I want to try playing "Scotty Doesn't Know" by Lustra. Do I have to tune my guitar in a certain way? Do I need a different amp? When I tried playing it, it sounds different. Any tips? Please help ! Thank you in advanced!

Look up the tab for the song, and it will say what tuning its in. If you don't know how to tune it you should search for the tuning on google.

You won't be able to get the guitar to sound the same as it is in the song, but try changing the settings on your amp and make sure your guitar is tuned properly and it should sound good.

Can i learn to play the electric guitar from the internet alone? Jackson guitar owners see this.?

I don't have any clue about guitars and i am buying a Jackson JS20 dinky. Can i be good at it just by getting free online lessons? How is the guitar as a beginners guitar?

Can you learn how to play guitar on your own, just from the internet?

Yes. Doesn't mean you'll do it right, though. As the other answer suggested, learning on your own means you *will* have bad habits and incorrect technique. I know, because that's how it happened with me.... I never had enough money to afford a teacher, so I just taught myself. Worked out pretty well, for the most part, but it wasn't until years had passed that I began to realize that there were problems with my technique, problems that if I would've had a teacher that would have never shown up.

As a result, I did have to "unlearn" how to play and figure out how to do it correctly. My speed, coordination, and enjoyment did increase once I began ironing out my issues, but if I would've had good instruction from the start I would be a lot better by now.

My suggestion is to either get a teacher to learn the basics (how to hold your hand, how to fret a note, how to play a chord cleanly, how to run scales) at the very least, or if you are in the same place that I was when I started out, at least find the best guitar player you can jam with and study them like a hawk, ask them questions, etc.

You should have no issues with that guitar, its perfectly fine for a beginner. I *strongly* urge you to get it properly setup and intonated, though! This is something I never really understood for years, but a proper setup and intonation means that your guitar will play better, will stay in tune better, and will sound in tune with itself when you play higher up the fretboard.

Research your butt off - no teacher means you need to absorb a lot of information to make up for it! Youtube is an excellent resource that I didn't have when I was starting out - so spend hours studying how they do it, it should help you out greatly!

Saul

What is the Best Type of Guitar for a Beginner(Acoustic,Electric,or Acoustic-Electric)?

What is the Best Type of Guitar for a Complete Beginner
Acoustic or Electric or Acoustic-Electric
What is each one like and sound like?
I have no experience at all
Can you recommend me any guitars?
Where is the best place to buy my guitar?
What is the best way to learn to play guitar?
Should i buy books?
What are some free lessons online?
I don't know how to read music
How can i learn to read music?
Can you also just give me information about guitars
Basics or anything i need to know before i start

One of my most fequently asked questions from beginner players is whether to choose electric or acoustic. This is MY VIEW - others may disgaree and they are welcome to their opinion. Mine is subject to change without notice!
The basic types are Acoustic (steel strings), Electric and Classical (nylon strings). You can have semi-acoustic guitars too and also electro-acoustic guitars (acoustic guitars with a fitted pick-up system)
So lets look at the pro's and cons or each.
Playability
Electric guitar is easier to play. The strings are usually closer to the neck, thinner and therefor easier to press down. Barre chords on acoustic guitar can be very demanding and requires a lot of finger strength. Cheaper acoustic guitars can be very hard to play up the neck.
The distance from the strings to the neck is called the "action". when it is very low it is easy to press the strings down, when it it too low the strings will buzz. If it's too high it's too hard to play, though many pro players (like myself) prefer a higher action so you can dig into the strings. Getting your guitar action set up by a good lutherer can make a huge difference to your guitar's playability.
I have a number of private students that found an AMaZING difference when they had set their guitar up correctly. If you are struggling to play barré chords on an acoustic guitar, it could certainly be a part of the problem.
Sound and Style
It is what you want to do...If you want to play rock, get an electric. If you want to play folk or fingerstyle I think acoustic is a good choice. If you want to play classical then you need a nylon string classic guitar. It all depends on what style you want to play. If you want to play all styles, then electric might be the way to go and get an acoustic later.
Costs
Very cheap acoustics are usually not such a great idea, often sound quality is poor and they are hard to play, I often see students selling them after a six month struggle - so you'll find a lot on e-bay! But that is all you need. See my recommened products page.
Electric guitars need an amplifier to be heard although they make enough sound just for practice without one. There are also a number of units (like Line 6 Pod) that can be plugged into your hi-fi, not much use if you wanna play in a band though!
Verdict
Well I think for the general beginner an elecric guitar is probably a better starter instrument, mainly because they are a little easier to play and so you will see results faster and it will inspire you to play more! But it really doesn't matter.
Brands - Acoustic
Maton (my favouries by far) Yamaha and Fender all make good budget acoustic guitars. At the higher end I rate Maton, Martin, Taylor and Guild. Old ones often sound great and have more character. Watch out for cracks in the wood if you buy second hand guitar, if you don't know what you are doing, ask someone who does!!
Brands - Electric
My favorite adage applies, "Buy cheap, Buy twice". I rate the Yamaha Pacifica guitars, very good build and slighly thinner neck (good for rock), consistently excellent build quality. I don't think there is much of a question about the quality of these guitars and most of the other teachers I respect recommend them too! There are cheaper guitars but for the few pounds you will save you are much better off to go for a Pacifica.
There are some cheaper Ibanez guitars that sound great. The Fender Squire are not bad either, though I've seen some bady set up ones with really cheap fittings so they are on the way down in my book. Buying a good USA strat will always be awesome though
DON'T BUY AN ELECTRIC WITH A FLOATING TREMELO WHEN YOU START OUT.
They are a total pain in the butt, very hard to tune and a real pain to change strings. The cheaper ones go out of tune a lot too. If you spend more, and know why you want one, then fine, but locking tremelos on budget instruments are usually rubbish.
Brands - Classical
I think the Yamaha brand are excellent, and that what I started on! There are others but Yamaha are very consistent top notch product.
I hope that help you make up your mind!!
OK then - time to make sure you know the best way to practice!
