Any Epiphone guitar is an excellent guitar!!! The Les Paul models are very popular, of course, and are especially nice for playing blues. You may want to go to a music dealer and have one of their sales people play a GL Tribute (produced by the founder of Fender) of the stratocaster and telecaster varieties while you step back and give them a listen. The stratocaster has 3 pick-ups which can be chosen independantly or in groups which gives that guitar a wide variety of sounds; maybe a little more versatile than the Les Paul depending on the style of music you intend to play. I had a Les Paul and found it a little too "warm" sounding for my taste and decided to trade it in on a strat. But you may be one of those guys who can make the Les Paul sound like gold everytime you pick it up! So, if that's the case, by all means, GO FOR IT! I've always loved the Epiphones. That was my first guitar, too. I wanted one just because John Lennon played one during the early Beatle days. I'm a huge Beatle fan. I still listen to their music on a regular basis atleast once a week.
Good luck with your guitar choice. You really can't go wrong with the Epiphone brand...a very nice guitar!
