The bass guitar is a pretty cool instrument. It may not be as flashy as a drum kit, or command as much attention as a pimped out electric guitar, but it has a subdued, laid-back vibe all its own. A standard bass guitar has four strings and is tuned E-A-D-G; an octave below the lowest strings on a guitar to provide a sonic foundation for the melody to build upon.

While you may give up the fame and glory of the spotlight when you choose to become a bass player, you gain full control of the key of the music, and full dominion over the bass frequencies.

This is almost a mystical power that most people won’t even realize that you have. That means that if you’re a good bass player, you’re willing to work hard, learn and you have a great attitude –you’re going to have many more job opportunities than many other musicians would have.

Being a bassist is as much a state of mind as it is a position in the band. You need to put the song and the other musicians before yourself. You are the glue between the rhythm and the melody – you straddle the line between the drummer and the guitarist, giving the music that third dimension that makes music so exciting. If you’re willing to put your ego on the back burner, you can become a truly great bassist that is in demand.

Is playing the bass guitar easier? Yes it is. But to master any instrument is virtually impossible. Playing bass guitar is initially much easier than guitar; you can outline chords one finger at a time as opposed to learning the fingerings for each chord. You also have fewer strings to change than the guitarist, but keep in mind that bass guitar strings are thicker – so in some ways, playing the bass guitar is more difficult because you need to play just as fast as the guitarists but with thicker strings. This means that you’re moving more mass in the same amount of time or energy.

Today one very popular instrument happens to be the guitar. Of course there are a variety of different types of guitars out there. Various guitars have a different appearances, sound, and are a bit different to play. Trying to decide what type of guitar to learn and play? Here is a look at some of the different guitar types to choose from.

If you are looking for a good place to start, it would probably be best to start with acoustic. These aren't electric, and rely only upon themselves for any sort of sound. The body resonates vibrations that you make by playing the instrument, and these are normally made of wood, and the types of wood that are used may be different for each guitar.

There's a multitude of different acoustic guitars to choose from. One that you might want to look into is the classical guitar. This will serve a beginner well with it's nylon strings and great sounds. You could look into flamenco guitars, which are quite like classical ones but are thinner and sound a little better.

Another guitar that you will find out there is the 12 string. It is called this for obvious reasons and belongs in the acoustic family of guitars. Each string has a sister string which makes the same note, but is tuned to a slightly higher octave. This is done so that more sounds can be produced when playing the guitar.

Another type of acoustic guitar out there is the steel top guitar. They are close to classical guitars but are made with reinforced bodies and are a bit larger than the classical guitar as well. Their tone is a bit warmer, giving them a nice, mellow sound when you play them.

Acoustic base is a type which is a bass guitar with no electric pick ups. It has a body designed to give off a great sound, and usually these have four strings. There are some models that come with more strings, which could be up to six on some types.

You've probably heard of electric guitars by this point, which is what a lot of people are looking to play. They are a little more advanced, and have electronic pick ups which amplify them. In order for this to work properly you will need to locate and purchase a decent amplifier. The body of the guitar makes it impossible for noise to be emitted without an amplifier.

The majority of electric guitars will come with control knobs. These knobs can change the tone as well as control the volume. They unknowingly lump the classical guitar in with the folk guitar. How To Learn Guitar Chords FreeBut there are several important distinctions between classical and folk guitars which will be discussed in this article.

Like the folk guitar, the classic guitar is a six-stringed acoustic instrument. The name "classical" suggests that this instrument has been around for many centuries but this is not the case. The instrument, in its present form, did not appear until about the middle of the nineteenth century.

One immediately noticeable difference between the classical and folk guitars is the composition of the strings. Folk guitars are traditionally strung with metal strings and are often played with a pick or plectrum. Classical guitars, on the other hand, are strung with nylon strings and are picked with the thumb and first three fingers of the right hand.

The higher register strings are made wholly of mono-filament nylon. The three bass strings are made of very fine metal wire wrapped around a multi-filament nylon core. Nylon strings tend to have a much lower tension than the folk guitar's steel strings. As such, they are easier to play and also have a less-harsh, mellower sound than metal strings.

The neck and fingerboard on a classical guitar tends to be wider and less tapered than a folk or electric guitar. The headstock is quite different from the folk guitar headstock. To begin with, machine heads or tuning pegs on a classical guitar are perpendicular to the face of the headstock and point backwards - toward the player. While, on a folk guitar, the machine heads are mounted parallel to the face of the headstock and three machine heads point upward while the other three point toward the floor.

The scale length is the nominal vibrating length of the strings. It can be calculated by measuring the distance from the nut to the 12th fret and doubling this measurement. The classical guitar has a scale length of about 25.6-inches. For reference, this is about the same scale length as a Fender Stratocaster (25.5-inches).

Another difference between the classical and folk guitars is how they are played. The folk guitar is either worn with a strap or supported by the right leg when in a sitting position. The classic guitar (when held in the proper classical guitar posture) is rested on the left leg. In this position, the neck can more easily be angled upward which presents a more natural and relaxed angle for the left hand. As mentioned earlier, a classical guitar is played with the fingers rather than with a pick.

Although it is associated with classical music, the classical guitar can be - and often is - used to play popular or folk music. Very often classical guitars are purchased by non-classical musicians who simply like the feel and sound of the nylon strings. In these cases, the guitar is played just like a folk guitar (held on the right leg) and played with a pick. In fact, the softer nylon strings often make it a good choice for the beginning guitarist.
