It's quite interesting to notice how guitar students have often the same questions when starting to play the instrument. In almost two decades I had hundreds, if not thousands, of people asking me the same questions over and over again. What I often do nowadays I just predict the question and give the answer even before they ask, to their amusement off course. This is my chance to clarify a few important issue. By far the most common question is whether to start with electric or acoustic guitar lessons and my answer to that is always the same: Acoustic guitar! these are my reasons why:

Acoustic guitars are loud enough and you don't need any amps or pedals you would normally need if you play electric. That will save you quite a bit of money you could spend in online guitar tutorials or even a better guitar.

When you play acoustic you focus on basic guitar techniques like chord changes, strumming and fingerpicking and you don't need to think about any advanced electric guitar stuff. That will help you lay down a good foundation.

Playing open chords sounds more authentic on acoustic guitar and it will definitely inspire you to play even more just because it sounds so good.

You can take your acoustic guitar wherever you like without having to worry about amplification. That is quite useful if you want to play at a camp or friends house and don't want to worry about carrying around extra stuff.

Acoustic guitar is a bit more demanding to play versus to electric guitar and that will make your hands stronger and help lay down a solid foundation.

Once established we should leave the electric guitar for a later stage, the next question is whether to buy a nylon or a steel string guitar. That is completely a personal choice as the two instruments have different tone and are used in different genres of music. If you want to play classical, flamenco, bossa nova or latino a nylon string is what you need while the steel string is used in more contemporary styles like pop, country and rock.

After you have been playing for a while and are comfortable playing song you can start considering getting yourself an electric guitar.

Playing a musical instrument is a very enjoyable activity and the effort you put in will soon pay off. Therefore keep on practicing as practice make perfect and at all times have fun in the process.

To learn the guitar is a great endeavor, and it requires quite a bit of work. You will also find that it is a lot of fun. You might feel however, that with all the practice you are doing, you are amounting to absolutely nothing as far as your guitar playing abilities goes. There are a few tips that you can follow in order to hone your skills, and regardless of your current skill level, you will still find them to be extremely helpful.

If you wish to develop even better skills, then you need to remember to keep your posture when playing. There are a lot of people that don't understand how much of an impact posture has on your guitar playing ability. You need to sit on a chair or even bench which has no arms that make it easy for you to hold a guitar. Also make sure that your back is straight because your posture affects not only the sound but also your back.

Did you know that there is also a proper way to hold the pick? There certainly is, you need to make sure that you hold it just right, which is to say firm, but not incredibly firm.. The only thing you need to do is ensure that you are not going to drop it on accident.

The reason you don't want to grip your pick too hard when you are playing is fatigue. When you hold the guitar pick too firmly your entire arm is going to start getting tired pretty quickly. Go with a grip that is firm, but not too firm, and you'll get a great sound and won't tire out your arm as much.

Beginner guitar lessons

Of course it also matters whether or not you have chosen the right pick. Yes, there are several different types. There are flat licks, finger picks, and even picks which vary in feel. If you are a beginner then it would probably be best to start out with a flat pick that is soft, but of course later on that choice will be totally up to you.

Another great tip is to begin to learn arpeggios. You may not have learned how to play these yet, but once you do, it will really make your guitar playing sound good. They are actually fairly easy, they sound great, and they are a whole lot of fun to play as well.

When you play arpeggios you will not be able to sue guitar picks of any type. These are played by your fingers by placing them on different notes. You generally pick four notes and play from there, and you'll have to learn to do it fast. When you become quite good at this your guitar playing will sound beautiful.

These are just a few helpful tips that can enable you to play the guitar even better than before. Use these tips to make yourself sound great and make sure you practice them too. Whether you are just learning to play or you have been taking lessons for some, these tips can definitely help you improve your skills and sound.

by John Edward

One of the most beautiful instruments is the guitar. There is no doubt that it is attractive to many. It doesn't matter what type of music may be playing, usually the guitar is one of the critical instruments.

In many bands, lead singers are able to play the guitar. You are not the only one who wants to learn how to play. There have been millions who have tried to learn to play and no doubt many more are going to want to learn as well.

Learning to play guitar will require several things from you. You shouldn't even think about wanting to play the guitar if you don't think you can handle the following facts. You'll just be wasting your money and your time.

Learning to play guitar isn't easy - There is no magic wand that can be waved or computer chip that can be implanted into your brain to enable you to play like a pro.

Although when you watch guitarists on television or at shows, they make it look so easy. Of course they never show you how much practice they have put into playing or all the time they spent learning to play guitar.

Another thing you need to know is that it takes time when learning to play guitar. Don't think within a week or two you'll have mastered the guitar. It will take a lot of work from you as well as a lot of practice. You'll need to learn about guitar tuning, the basic chords for playing, then you'll go on to some easy songs, and then you have the basis to keep going.

Another thing you'll need when learning to play guitar is a lot of patience. No doubt you'll make plenty of mistakes along the way. Some days you may be so frustrated you want to smash that guitar.

If you are someone who quits when things don't go your way, then learning to play guitar is not going to be a good option for you. What would happen if some of the best guitar players would have quit when they found learning to play difficult? Today they would not be the big stars that they are.

Having realistic expectations is important when it comes to playing guitar. If you know what you're getting into, are willing to take the time to learn, and you have the patience to keep going when it is tough, then you may be ready to learn how to play. Then the way you go about learning to play guitar is totally in your hands.

One option for learning to play guitar is to go online and use sites and courses on the web. Usually one site will be able to provide you the lessons and everything else needed so you can learn to play the guitar well.

You'll probably have to pay to have access to the best sites for learning guitar. Of course this cost is not that much when you think about how much you would end up paying for guitar lessons. Online learning also lets you learn from home and you can do your lessons when you have the time.

In reality, there is no way to instantly learn how to play the guitar. There are definitely methods that you can use that will cut down the learning curve. You can't expect to be able to pick up a guitar and be a master it within one day.

Learning to play the guitar doesn't take only one day of practice. The most famous guitarists didn't learn their skills in just one day. They put a lot of time into practice and disciplined themselves to be patient.

In fact, most of the famous guitarists had been playing guitar for years before they made it big. Even when you get very good at playing guitar, there will always be something new to learn.

First, make sure that you know the different parts of the guitar. What do they do? Then start in on the easy chords. Don't jump too far ahead and stay away from the power chords until you know what you are doing.

Remember that you should practice one chord at a time. Before you move on to another chord, make sure that you master the previous one. Remember to be attentive to good hand posture and that you are getting a good sound out of the instrument.

To really make sure that you have mastered a certain chord, remember that you should play it over and over again. With this foundation, you can build up towards easy sounds when you are looking at the chords that you have already learned.

Once you master each chord you will build confidence within yourself. When you learn an easy song and master it, you will further build your confidence in your playing. By doing this, it will also further encourage you to want to keep learning and practicing. It's very fulfilling to be able to play your first song after putting some time and effort into it.

As long as you make sure that your expectations are realistic and that you are practicing on a daily basis, you will find that learning the guitar is easy and fun. You just need to put some work into it. Take advantage of the tutorials that will show you what to do.

If you are looking to make sure that you can learn to play the guitar with ease, remember that you need quality instruction. It doesn't matter what form it takes, just remember that the more knowledge you have to work with, the better it is going to be. Check online for more help.

If you want to learn to play the guitar easily, then an online guitar course may be your best bet. You can learn at your own pace. You don't have to leave your house to go anywhere. Compared to lessons, the cost is very minimal. They provide all the quality training you need to take you from a novice to skilled.
